When I started to get serious about my health and fitness a couple of months ago I wanted to make sure that I was eating well. I wanted good nutritious food to fuel my life change. Sounds simple right?
So I tried to figure out what I should eat and boy are there are lot of opinions out there with a lot of charts and graphs.
- Pasture Raised
- Free Range
Frankly, it was overwhelming, until I spoke to a nutritionist friend of mine. This advice was so simple and so freeing. The best part is you don’t need to even talk to a doctor or nutritionist before you try it.*
The Best Food you Can Eat
Here is what the nutritionist said, “Austin, it doesn’t matter for you. You are at least 80lbs over weight. You should concentrate on eliminating processed foods from your diet. Replace those foods with vegetables and fruits.”
Based on the feedback I have been getting so far on my blog most of you are in a similar spot with me. You are looking to make some changes in health and fitness because things are not where you want them.
So, take a look in your pantry, cabinets, refrigerator, and freezer. It doesn’t matter if non-GMO spinach is better than organic GMO Spinach. If you are eating frozen pizza and potato chips every night, then either kind of spinach will be a better choice.
One thing I have learned in the last 3 months is that small steps and habit changes lead to big results over time. I wrote an entire post about how to get good at anything. This also applies to eating better.
Once I have a good grasp on my eating habits, then I can worry about optimizing the food I am eating. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.
*The one exception here is for people with a known allergy or disease. If this is you, please consult a nutritionist or your doctor.
